Our school-wide pedagogical approach is based on
the Explicit Teaching model and is explained in our pedagogical
framework. We aim to develop students’ higher-order thinking skills in
all learning areas. We encourage children to communicate and reflect on
all areas of learning. Data is gathered on a regular basis and used to
differentiate the curriculum to meet students’ learning needs.
At Glenore Grove State School we use learning walls to support students with their engagement in learning. Learning Walls or 'The third teacher' in a classroom is the learning environment. At GGSS it is all of the space in the classroom where a learning wall can be displayed. This includes walls, windows and hanging spaces.
The learning wall is a place to record and build upon the learning that occurs with each unit of work. It serves as a prompt or scaffold for students and a place of reference if they are stuck. It fosters and encourages communication and relationships. The third teacher invites children to delve deeper, investigate and represent their learning through a range of mediums. It promotes the idea of children as partners and collaborators in their learning.
